    WINTER IN OBERVELLACH/REISSECK

    In the heart of the Hohe Tauern, where the peaks of the three thousanders string together, lie the municipalities of Obervellach and Reißeck.     When the Almrausch dips the mountain slopes in pink in the spring, it is the best time to discover the treasures of the Hohe Tauern National Park region. Set amidst the Central Alps and surrounded by beautiful high mountains scenery, castles and hand-cut tunnels here in the Middle Moelltal are reminders of the time of the gold mining in the Hohe Tauern. The seat of the Chief Mines Inspector was in Obervellach at this time, where today the National Park exhibition in the Chief Miner’s Office recalls the time of the gold rush.
